Valerie C. Moore, Christopher A. Dyke, Michael P. Stewart, Elizabeth A. Whitsitt, Robin E. Anderson, Douglas C. Ogrin, Ramon Colorado, Andrew R. Barron, James M. Tour, Robert H. Hauge, Richard E. SmalleyThe attachment of metal nanoclusters to purified single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) has been investigated. By preparing nanotubes with different end and sidewall functionalities, an iron/molybdenum polyoxometalate nanocluster can be attached to the open ends of SWNTs. The degree of attachment is dependent on the end and sidewall functionalities and the attachment conditions. AFM and TEM were used to analyze the degree of attachment under the various conditions.
